Text Box: If you do feel like cheating remember there's always a healthier alternative. Keep some low fat protein bars around incase you crack. Try blending frozen strawberries in low-fat yogurt (with a tsp of honey if you need it) instead of ice cream. If you completely eliminate your favorite cheat foods then your more likely to fall off the health wagon and revert back to your bad eating habits. However, you should limit your cheat foods to once per week or on special occasions.

Won't it be hard to change my eating habits?

Text Box: Keep your diet exciting, nothing breeds cravings and cheating like a boring diet. Mix up your meal options on a regular basis and try new foods. Instead of having a baked potato, try mashed, rice, couscous, whole wheat pasta... Use herbs and spices and low-fat yogurt to make sauces and dressings. Remember, eating healthy doesn't have to be bland and boring.

Text Box: Probably, but even very small changes can improve your health considerably. The key is to keep trying to eat the right foods and stay in touch with your doctor and nutritionist, to let them know how your doing. Here are a few are a few suggestions to help you improve your eating habits:

Text Box: Find the strong points and weak points in your current diet. Do you eat 5 to 7 servings of fruit and vegetables every day? Do you eat enough calcium? Do you consume 5 to 6 small meals per day? Do you eat whole-grain, high-fiber foods regularly? If so, good! If not you can learn the changes you need to make.

Text Box: Make small changes, instead of trying to make large, fast changes. Small changes will be easier to make and stick with over time.

Text Box: Keep track of your food and calorie intake by writing down what you consume and drink every day. Use this record to help you see if you need to eat more from any food group, such as vegetables, meats, or dairy products. Knowing how much protein, carbs, and fat you consume in a day will show you if your diet is well balanced or needs to be changed - see food pyramid for portion guide lines.
